The Financial Markets Department (FMD) is responsible for BSL’s activities in the Money and Foreign Exchange Markets and is also responsible for collecting and assessing market intelligence and development to support the Bank’s objective of maintaining price stability and financial inclusion. The Department also manages the foreign exchange reserves of the Bank and formulates and implements policies on the conduct of foreign exchange transactions consistent with the Exchange Control Act, 1965 and Sierra Leone’s obligations under Article VIII. The Department acts as the secretariat of the Foreign Assets Committee chaired by the Governor. It chairs the Government Treasury Bills auction, the Foreign Exchange auction and also co-chairs the Cash Management Committee.
